Birdwatching is a choice hobby unlockable at D.G. Level 5, taught by the patient naturalist Bailey J. Rather than catching or collecting physical specimens, birdwatching uses a camera-based photography system where players snap pictures of 68 bird species in their natural habitats. The hobby rewards patience, exploration, and knowledge of each species' preferred locations and weather conditions.
Photography System
When you spot a bird in the wild, you can enter camera mode to take its photograph. Photo quality is rated on a 1 to 5-star scale based on factors like distance, angle, and timing. The sell price multiplier system for bird photos is exceptionally generous: while base prices range from 7G for common species to 65G for rare ones, the multipliers go up to 32x at 5-star quality. This means a perfect 5-star photo of a Peregrine Falcon (65G base) sells for an impressive 2,080G.
Where to Find Birds
Birds are distributed across every region of Heartopia, with each species favoring specific locations and weather conditions. Weather is the primary spawn-gating factor for most birds. Many of the rarest species, including the American Flamingo, White-headed Duck, and Eurasian Eagle-Owl, appear exclusively during Rainbow weather, making those rare weather windows critical for completing your Birdwatching Diary. Onsen Mountain is widely regarded as the richest birdwatching region, hosting everything from common Great Tits to rare Peregrine Falcons.
The Nest of Hundreds seasonal event introduces additional bird species, including colorful macaw and peafowl variants. Winter Frost adds special seasonal bird variants near Suburban Lake. Completing the Birdwatching Diary collection is one of Heartopia's most time-intensive achievements, requiring visits to every region during multiple weather conditions and times of day.
